[IT’S UNBELIEVABLE TO ME]
That kids can’t identify common fruits and vegetables – let alone rarely eat them
That people are okay waking up with the first thing on their mind being a cup of coffee
That it’s okay that we don’t demand proper labeling of our food and food sources
That schools rarely, if ever, emphasize the importance of wellness and what it really means
That schools feed our kids what they say is ‘food’ when most of it is nutrient-poor
That 2/3rd’s of all people are now obese or overweight and society is accepting this as the norm
That diet-related diseases are the biggest killer in the US today
That rather than fix the problem, it’s okay to drive to a physician who has had less than a semester in nutrition and fix the issue with more chemicals in the form of ‘medicine’
That movement has become a luxury in life, not a necessity
That busyness is now a socially accepted badge of honor and cooking is a lost art
If you want LONG-TERM HAPPINESS, you need LONG-TERM WELLNESS
Our kids deserve to understand the concepts of nutrition and movement as much as they deserve how to read, do math, and be social creatures
Let’s all be part of a solution and elevate the conversation
I am in support of Jaimie Oliver’s mission. His TED talk in 2010 is a beauty if you want to get quickly schooled
Create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again, and empower people everywhere to fight obesity
